The collection of pictures bought by a leading international luxury brand is from the collection of the late French philanthropist Albert Kahn.

In 1909 Kahn started a unique project where he sent photographers to different parts of the world to shoot images. The aim was to document distinguished cultures and lifestyles.

And the pictures that will be displayed at the upcoming exhibitions shall provide a peek into this collection.

Kahn’s treasure trove of pictures boasts of 72,000 colour photographs and 1,83,000 meters of film. He sent photographers to more than 50 countries likeIndia, Vietnam, Brazil, Mongolia among others.

Photographers wereoften sent at crucial junctures in their history, when age-old cultures were on the brink of changing for-ever. And in 1929 the Wall Street Crash forced Kahn to bring his project to an end. He died in 1940, but left behind the most important collection of early colour photographs in the world.
