If you get hurt, then two things happen. Either you fall down or you learn to fly by making yourself stronger than before. Madholal Keep Walking, directed by a young Indian director, Jai Tank, is a film about how an unfortunate event like a terror strike breaks the spirit of a young man. Interestingly, on popular demand, this film was screened thrice at this year’s Osian Film Festival.

There have been other films on the Mumbai terror attacks such as Mumbai Meri Jaan and A Wednesday. How is this film different from the ones already produced? “My film doesn’t talk about terror attacks in general. It’s the story and struggle of a common man who gets severely injured in the train terror strikes and what happens next with him. I got the idea for this movie when the accountant who works in our office luckily survived the local train blasts on that fateful day,” says Jai.

Having migrated with his wife and daughters to Mumbai from a village, the protagonist Madholal Dubey has settled into a daily routine. The two hours spent in the train to and from work each day are the most exciting moments for Madholal. But life comes to a standstill with the sudden train blasts and all his dreams come crashing down in a jiffy. With his faith in doubt, he and his family must find a way to move beyond the tragedy and fear to build a new life.

“A setback can happen to all of us and life can change in a few seconds. Fear can catch hold of your spirit. But life is not about giving yourself up to those hindrances. The message that I am trying to put across is to trust in the strength of your will and defeat that fear inside,” explains Jai.

This is Jai’s debut feature film which has a duration of one hour and 45 minutes. The entire film was shot in 27 days with theatre actors.
