Mumbai: More than not, fashion tends to be considered as superficial. But looks like a lot of designers are changing that by not just designing high-end garments, but also some very affordable designer clothing. Designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed for one, is clear about doing the same. Which explains why he has come up with a very economically viable collection, the price range of which starts as low as Rs1,800.

Designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed opens up on affordable designer wear and branching out into other design-related areas.

"I don't see why designer clothes can't be affordable. To me, fashion has to be a democratic process and I want every woman to be able to wear my creations. So I decided to tie-up with a fashion store and design this line which falls in the affordable price range of Rs1,800 to 10,000," he says.

Of course, he also has his other two labels 'Nari Nari' and 'Narendra Kumar Ahmed' which are in the expensive segment, but the idea as he says is to have something for everyone. "Fashion is not just meant for the rich. An expensive garment from my other labels such as a 'Nari Nari' creation has its own USP, but now people have cheaper options as well," he points out.

Speaking further about this line, he says, "I have designed this line keeping in mind the urban woman. The clothes are a lot of fun and have that air of youth about them. So you can wear it to an informal evening function as well. There are lots of dresses, apart from trousers and skirts. Also, you don't have to buy the entire ensemble, but you can mix and match different tops with different bottoms to create a unique look. Your clothes will reflect, rather than overshadow your personality. The colour palette is very trans-seasonal and boasts of a wide variety."

Ask him if he too has plans to branch out into related design areas (read: accessories and interiors) and he is quick to say that it's definitely on his radar. "Getting into accessories would be a good move and I have been thinking about it for some time now. But now is not the right time as I have my hands full with my clothing labels. In the future, I am going to design accessories -- especially shoes as I feel that there's a lack of well-made shoes in the market. This apart, I will also look at dabbling in home décor in due course of time," he ends.
