Facebook is a hot favourite amongst mobile users in the UK, with the social networking website accounting for nearly half of all the time spent using phones, according to figures from a mobile industry body.

People in the country spent around 2.2 billion minutes surfing the popular website during December alone, data from the GSM Association (GSMA) showed.

Facebook also bagged the title for the most unique visitors (5 million), the most number of pages viewed (2.6 million) along with most time spent on the site, reports the BBC.

Falling in the second place was Google with 4.57 million unique users and 395 million mobile minutes spent online followed by Microsoft sites with 165 million minutes.

Wrapping up the top five were Orange sites and AOL (and Bebo) with 138 million minutes and 106 million minutes respectively.
