Dressing up to go to work needn’t be a yawn-inducing affair. Amit Kumar, deputy design manager at Indus League gives suggestions on how to dress sharp and look stylish at work

1. While picking shirts for workwear women can never go wrong with white, ecru and cream-coloured shirts.

2. In choosing fabrics for formal shirts, go for pure cotton or silk.

3. The androgynous look is very in right now. So, women can add chequered or striped shirts, which were considered typically male till now, to their wardrobe.

4. While shopping for shirts, it is also important to ensure that the fit is right. Neither should it be too tight nor should it be loose. Also ensure that there are no gaping space between buttons. We have always have lady customers complaining about it.

5. Comfort is an essential factor while shopping for formal wear. So, look for clothes made from stretch fabric as it ensures easy movement.

6. Bright coloured formal wear are ideal for early-evening or day-time occasions.

7. Colour blocking is another popular trend in formal wear for women, today. The look works very well during day-time. In adapting the look, go for contrasts and coordinate the whole look. So, if you have a bright green top, team it up with a white or neutral-coloured pant and jacket.

8. Women sometimes make the mistake of going over the top with matching everything. That said, wearing a completely matching outfit works perfectly well for shorter women. It makes them look taller.

9. Women often make the mistake of overdoing stuff. They dress themselves up from top to bottom and wear high heels to work which can get painful especially when you are moving around a lot at work. Low-heeled sandals, classic pumps and ballerinas are the best bet.

10. For women who love their skirts, check that the hem is below the knee. Carry a bag that is not too bright. Coordinating your accessories with your apparel is important. And while we are at it, avoid wearing jewellery that makes too much noise. Simple and classic pieces always work.
