Banglore: The St Anne's PU College campus is brimming with gusto and ardent fervour for the arts. This year's theme for the two-day inter-collegiate cultural fest called 'Prathibimb - a reflection of your talents', is Indian art and culture.
Delving into the meaning of the title, a senior staffer, explained, "Prathibimb is the reflection of god. Our action and thought should reflect this image of god in us."
The cultural fest kicked off on Wednesday at the college auditorium, with an invocation followed by lighting of the lamp by the principal, Sr Annet Sab, guest of honour, Kiran Subramanyam and chief guest, Sandhya Kiran (both eminent Bharatnatyam dancers), senior teacher, Nirmala and the Student Union secretary, Archana.
Following this, Kuvempu's composition in praise of Karnataka, Jai Bharatha Jananiya Tanujaathe, was played, as the audience stood up in reverence of the great writer and in the spirit of Kannada Rajyotsava Day. Soon after, the rolling trophies that the winners were to take home were unveiled by Sandhya Kiran, who declared the event "open".
Speaking on the occasion about the theme of the cultural fest, Kiran Subramanyam, the guest of honour, said, "It is possible to connect to god through culture and India is richly endowed with culture and heritage. It is therefore our responsibility to preserve it and be proud of it. Remember, the highest form of worship is through art."
To participate in this art and culture fest, 50 girls' and boys' PU colleges from around the city were invited. Talking about the preparations, Latha, a lecturer of Political Science, said, "The Prathibimb committee comprising four teachers - Latha, Monica, Silvi and Sr Sini - guiding the student union members, have been on the move for more than 15 days."
Although the previous years' fest had a mix of Indian and western themes, this year's Prathibimb, the biggest fest of the college, is purely on Indian tradition and culture, said Tina, the Student Union head. "We hope this cultural fest is a great learning experience for participants," she added.
