For 2012 you should get ready to experiment with glamourous colours, shimmering metals and be prepared to think outside the box. The modern and contemporary styles with the clean lines that dominate the current trends will to a large extent be carried on through to 2012. But in the coming year we will see fearless mixing of colours and also of blending the old with the new.

“I foresee bold colours and lots of shiny surfaces for next year. There will be modern and contemporary styles juxtaposed with Art deco,” says Beena Patre. The vibrancy of coral-pink or even the daring hue of neon is an example of the colours we will be seeing more of. When decorating the more glamourous rooms, gold and silver leaf — or perhaps mother of pearl — will provide the opulent finish fitting for such spaces. “We will probably see gold on furniture or for example on the mirror panels,” says Patre, adding, “Large mirrors are something we should watch for as well, and a lot of glass is also being used in the interior today.”

Aside from mirrors adorning the walls, Patre predicts high quality wallpapers in shimmering finishes and modern digital patterns for your curtains and other textile interiors. And while “modern” may be a keyword for defining contemporary interior decorating that does not always have to be the case. “Some traditional items may drop in as well. Like a traditional old chair that carries some kind of sentimental value, that you could restore and add to the interior,” says Patre.

Unless you enjoy dwelling in the dark, you may also be glad to hear that the upcoming lightning trends may very well reduce your electricity-bill, while keeping your home fashionable at the same time. “LED-lights, which consume minimal power, are big now.  You need to be conscious,” says Beena Patre, and concludes with summing up the upcoming trends by saying, “Basically, you need to think outside the box for the following year.”
