A Sucheta Mittra design DNA
|
With numerous Soul Santés and the ever-popular Flea Nite at Olive Beach, Bangaloreans are never ever starved for a bohemian shopping experience! Come New Year, and organisers start planning the new flea markets to welcome the spring, and this year’s first in line is the ever-popular Flea Nite at Olive Beach.
“This is the first time we’re showcasing at a flea market,” says Nirmitha Reddy from popular desi-kitsch brand Uru, that already has a huge fan following. “We’ve participated earlier in the Soul Santé, but that was at a much larger scale and we were surprised with the response we met, so we hope to have that kind of success here too,” she adds.
Young and first time participant Sucheta Mittra, shares the same enthusiasm. “I just got out of college and I’ve always felt that what’s considered to be ‘style’ is often far from it. To me, style is being able to wear what you really want to and to be able to carry it off with a lot of attitude — and that’s reflected in my clothes. They’re a flurry of colour and all my designs are mix-and-match pieces. This is the first time I’m showcasing my designs and I am really hoping for a good crowd. I’m quite expectant of the sales I will make,” Sucheta says.
The Flea Nite always features young designers and private brands with a cause. Young designers like Sanyukta Churiwala with her brand Sanyukta will feature accessories while Runa Ray with MOJO will focus on jackets and Simera Anwar with SayC on shoes. It’s however, not just about clothes and accessories, this year. This flea market will also feature wall panels, lamp holders, cushion covers, chappals, belts, coasters, napkins and much more from Sania and Lloyd’s Just Embroideries, while artist Theja George’s Dream Infinite will focus on paintings, candles and pots.
Brands like Uru and Khursheed Irani will offer a range of interesting and funky items to raise funds for different causes. Khursheed Irani hopes to garner funds for the patients of Kidwai Memorial Hospital, while Uru focuses on local artisans.
Shopping, causes, new designers and loads of fun are definitely guaranteed, and just in case you were bored, you can always sip on delicious cocktails, feast on fabulous snacks and listen to some groovy music that Olive Beach promises to add to the event.
