Artist Mrityunjay Mondal takes viewers to a ride through his dream world. In his current exhibition, Mrityunjay explores the infinite reach of the mind. He marvels at how the mind can wander to various places through dreams, almost making it seem like a dream experience or dream-reality, a term coined by Indian aestheticians.

In his 12 works in an exhibition titled Dancing with the Muse, Mrityunjay says that he has made an effort to even reach inside the minds of masters like Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. He recalls, “In my home town once I was watching a herd of goats.

And suddenly it struck me that one of the goats looks a lot like
Picasso’s famous painting of a goat.” He adds, “This made me wonder that though I was physically in my native place yet mentally I took a trip to Paris and got back. And this experience motivated me to portray the journey of my mind on my canvas.”

One of the very interesting art works of the exhibition showcases Salvador Dali’s watch. “Whenever I see a beautiful watch, I have a tendency to adjust the time of my watch according to that watch. So in this work I am taking a journey to see Salvador Dali’s famous watch and that too in a Bugatti. It is the most expensive car according to a survey done in 2009.”

By painting the image of a Roman horse, a sculpture that is present in Paris, Mrityunjay tries to relate it with his play session with his 6 year old daughter.  “Many a times I have become Amrita’s horse. She sits on my back and we move around the house. And here in these works I have placed my beloved daughter on this beautiful sculpture."
