Mumbai: Are you an art lover but cannot afford works of famous artists? Try the exhibition cum sale of whimsical artwork at Candies. Organised by amateur artists Mishana Khot and Manasi More, the exhibition Art To Resist aims to provide art that is affordable. "Our main target is the youth -- those who live here on rent and are on the lookout for good but not very expensive artwork to decorate their homes,"says 28-year-old Khot. It will display works of amateur and experienced artists offering a variety of sketches, photography, hand-made lamps, artist proofs, coasters, posters and tees.
Khot and More started DandyCat Whimsy eight months back as a platform to give upcoming artists an opportunity to showcase their work. This weekend, the exhibition will display photographs by filmmakers Kunal Kochhar and Sunil Pillai. Khot along with More will showcase some of their acrylic artwork and hand-painted furniture.
The exhibition will also feature artists from Italy (Japi Honoo), the US (Meredith), Poland (Alicja Szaredni), Portugal (Arisu) and Brazil (Caio Lazzuri).
DandyCat Whimsy is an unofficial offshoot of 3rd Thought Entertainment, an art house that aims to make intelligent art a household term. "We help artists from all fields -- be it music, movies, publications, and visual art to showcase their work and collaborate with like-minded people from all over the world," explains Shazeb Shaikh, one of the co-founders.
The exhibition is open on July 4 and 5, from 10 am to 8 pm at Candies, Pali Hill, Bandra. Contact: 2648 1686
