The Sri Subramania Samaj Temple at Chheda Nagar, Chembur, held a three-day art exhibition starting from September 28 in the temple premises, in collaboration with S Ravindranath of Vedant Welfare Foundation (VWF). The exhibition of around 150 paintings, done by senior citizens and home makers — mostly first-timers in art — was inaugurated by Mumbai mayor Shubha Raul.

Earlier, an eight-month ‘stress free’ art workshop was conducted by VWF for senior citizens and homemakers at the temple premises. The paintings made during the workshop were showcased at the expo.

“This workshop has influenced the lives of these artists in a big way. It is a collaborative effort that has helped us to put up this exhibition. It will be a day of immense pride when my students put up their own solo exhibition of paintings,” said S Ravindranath of VWF, who trained the artists.

“The workshop has helped me become stress-free and has boosted my self confidence. I have been highly motivated and excited to paint my abstract pieces,” said Padma Chettiyar, one of the artists.
