There’s no better way to chill out than having a small little barbecue party in your own backyard or balcony. Young Bangaloreans too are taking fancy towards being quite the hip chefs at home, buying their own barbecue stations to play host to their friends. From fancy ones, which work on electricity, to the old fashioned ones, you get to see them all.

Runa Desai Dalal, entrepreneur, says, “We picked up a simple one, from Russell Market. Nothing fancy, it serves the purpose. These ones are not only affordable but also last longer and give you that authentic taste. We’ve had quite a few parties in our home, which are a complete hit.”

While Runa may seem to like her barbecued food in the old fashioned way, there are a few modern homes, especially the apartment complexes, where coal isn’t the feasible option. “We have a small little balcony, which is an extension of our hall space. We couldn’t really think of the cumbersome way of getting charcoal and grilling meat in this limited space. This was when we decided to sample out an electric barbecue. It hardly causes any mess and is easy to maintain. We couldn’t have had it better,” says Akshaya Kamat, homemaker.

Weber Grill, which set shop in Bangalore a while back, has become quite the hot favourite amongst the young professionals.

“We get many people walking into our store curious about the art of barbecuing. Bangalore has a good chunk of population that is well-travelled, which is why barbecuing is becoming a popular way of spending time with family and friends,” says Aslam Gafoor of Weber Grills.

In fact, there are special sessions held periodically that are quite popular. From the choicest of meat to even vegetables, people get to learn everything about the art of grilling. Barbecues, which was something that Indians just got to see in the American television series a decade back, is slowly making its inroads into the lifestyles of the upwardly mobile Bangaloreans.
