Anish Vyavahare is just 22-years-old and has just self-published his first work of fiction stories relating to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The book is titled Mumbai On The Footboard — A 7 storied book and includes stories about Mumbai, her myriad people, their lives and the overarching feeling of belonging to this greater whole, this lovely city.

The book has seven stories which are a mix of fact and fiction. All the stories that take place in the same universe but are not interrelated with each other. “It took me in all six-seven months to conceptualise and write this book. I was grateful that I got a sabbatical for this much time from my company,” he says.

Anish is a graduate in psychology and is currently pursuing a postgraduate course in sociology. Apart from studying he has been working with the agency Lowe-Lintas for two years now. Writing is his passion and the Mumbai terrorist attack was what nudged his creative journey.

Interestingly the book has very inspiring fictional examples which can also be real life solutions to big problems we face in the country today. For instance, his fictional depiction of the MNS protest against the North Indians in Maharashtra shows the repercussions that take place in the north Indian states. Residents of North India start demanding better infrastructure and better job opportunities in their own state. As a result their states begin to prosper and the election issue of the sons of the soil for parties like MNS fizzles out leading them to look at thing in a more broadminded way.

In another instance Anish’s book describes the scenario where three 20-year-olds are discussing Ajmal Kasab sitting at a coffee shop.

They are quite taken by the fact that this terrorist is just their age and yet caused so much destruction. All of them brain storm on how and what could be the best punishment for this young terrorist. And the solution is to make him construct something in this very country that he came to destroy.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
The book will soon be available in bookstores across Mumbai. Anish plans to write more novels with a series title ‘A 7 storied book’. His second book is likely to be on the less explored fantasy genre.
