What’s common between Satyadev Dubey, Ebrahim Alkazi, Ratan Thiyam and now Bijon Mondal? Each of them has staged one of theatre history’s most famous plays, Andha Yug, in a style they are best known for.

A play that borrows from one of our greatest epics The Mahabharata, it traces the age of darkness in the world as a result of the epic war. Director Mondal decided to give the play a contemporary twist, by making it more suitable for the current generation of theatre enthusiasts. The stage is starkly bare and the costumes muted, unlike its earlier versions. Says Mondal, “My actors will be wearing shirts and harem pants.” The play will see a fusion band performing.
