When tragedy stuck, actor Ajay Devgn was shooting for a film in London. Somebody informed him that he was all over television.

The news focussed on the person who was standing beside him – slain journalist Jyotirmoy Dey at the book launch of Zero Dial.

The high profile book launch was also attended by former police top brass Rakesh Maria and deputy chief minister, Chhagan Bhujbal.

“J Dey was a friend and that is why he went to launch his book that day. He is shocked by the news. While everybody was sending out condolences to the media, Ajay refrained from doing so. You will not find even a message on his Twitter page or on Facebook. It was a loss of a close well-wisher for him,” says a friend of the actor, who spoke to Ajay about an hour after the news of the murder flashed on television.

“I have known him as a journalist of high integrity. Mr Dey has always been a man who been a great investigative journalist and a man of highest integrity. He is always humble and a man of few words. But his work speaks a million words. He is a journalist I have always respected,” reacted Ajay when he heard of the news.

Sources also say that Ajay will personally offer his condolences to the family of Dey once he is back from London. “He doesn’t want to talk about it as it is something close to his heart. He might contact Dey’s family when he is back from his shooting schedule. He has already made a few phone calls about how it happened and hopes that the killers get caught soon,” says  a source.
