The mosques of the city are being thronged by thousands of Muslims each night for the past 10 days for wayaz (religious discourse) as Eid-e-Milad is nearing.

People attend the discourses and listen to praises of the Prophet.

A major festival of Islam, Eid-e-Milad, or birth anniversary ofProphet Mohammad, falls on February 5. Devotees get an opportunity to know about the teachings of the Prophet, his sayings and the lifestyle which he suggested to his disciples.

Speaking about the festival, one of the members of Eid-e-Milad committee said, "The day is marked by special night prayers in mosque and a huge procession in the city."

Since the last 10 days, the mosques have also been decorated to look their best with shimmering lights and devotees are busy making replicas of Mecca and Madina to display them on the day of procession.

One of the messages which the procession of Eid-e-Milad imparts is of communal harmony as the mahant of Jagannath temple flags off the procession from Jamalpur.

The procession will have many decorated trucks, camel carts, horse carts and five music bands.

Also, the youth will display the replicas they made after toiling for days and their hard work will be recognised when they will be awarded for the best models made.
