It’s a well known fact that Javed Akhtar, wife Shabana Azmi and also son Farhan Akhtar have a keen eye for art. The three have inaugurated a few art shows on different occasions in the past too. Now Adhuna Akhtar has gone a step ahead.
In her salons — in Juhu and on Hughes Road — the celebrity hairstylist has installed an interactive installation on Michael Jackson by artist Chirag Patel. She says, “I am a great fan of MJ, I have grown up listening to him and so...an installation on him in my salons.” The USP of this installation is that people can write their views about MJ, whether good or bad, a phenomenon which is intriguing clients and employees alike. Adhuna confirms, “Though it has only been a while since the installation was put up, I do hear people discussing it. As the days pass, the installation will generate more interest for sure.”
The idea of an interactive installation at the salon came about when gallery owner Priyasari Patodia saw a display in Adhuna’s salon. Adhuna recalls, “Although it was only a display, Priyasari really liked it and suggested that we have an installation in the salon. I agreed as I think hair styling is also an art.”
Interestingly, the concept of an art installation in the salon is one that Adhuna has tried before. She says, “About 10 or 11 years ago, I did have an installation (a friend’s design sketches) put up in my salon. I am an art appreciator. Farhan and I have bought a few pieces of art, but I still don’t think I fit into the category of ‘art collector’.”
Adhuna’s current favourite artist is Dhruvi Acharya.
