The exhibition currently on display at the Guild Art Gallery is a result of serious brainstorming between the artists, writers and the curator.

Artists Balaji Ponna, Hemali Bhuta, Himanshu S, Kedar Dhondu, Om Soorya, Remen Chopra, Shreyas Karle and Ved Gupta, and writers Mohammed Ahmad Sabih and Shubhalakshmi Shukla’s works are on display till August 4.

Curator and gallery owner Shalini Sawney said, “The exhibition is an attempt to present the works produced during the week-long residency. It shares the views and ideas of the artists and writers during presentations and discussions on various issues pertinent to art.”

Balaji Ponna’s experiences of signboards and vehicle paintings have come to the fore. His visual vocabulary includes the use of grids, frames, photography, texts, which are his 'post modern tools of visual articulation'.

Hemali Bhuta does mostly site-specific works. Documenting and archiving seem to become curious nodes of enquiry into Hemali's works.

Himanshu S' works are filled with anxieties. He even doubts his role of an artist. Here his paintings are a cross between jigsaw puzzles and alphabets in bright colours. In Om Soorya's paintings, the mountains take precedence over the sun.

Reema Chopra's multiple images are mostly executed on paper in fragile lines and her images are arrived at through meditation.

Kedar Dhondu often uses miniatures to express but his underlying themes deal with violence. Bullet ridden windshields and officials frozen in the morning mist is his oeuvre. He juxtaposes the beautiful water-colour medium in his work

Ved Gupta's fibreglass sculptures concentrate on social hierarchies and the common man, whereas Shreyas Karle's work is community-based and every work is in a new media.

Of the writers, Mohammed Ahmad Sabih’s area of interest is in investigating the infrastructure and institution of Art in the country. He works in Delhi. Shubhalakshmi Shukla has curated shows for The Guild and also has a teaching experience at various schools of Art.

She has many publications accredited to her including 'Body and Transcendence: Two Women Artists, An essay on the paintings of Nasreen Mohamedi and Anita Dube in the book “Towards New Art History: Studies in Indian Art” and “Indexing Spaces and Images”, in the art journal Lalit Kala Contemporary. She lives and works in Mumbai.
