Maria Grazia Chiuri At Dior

The Valentino designer took over Dior's creative direction and wrote a new chapter at the hallowed French haute couture label, which has always been about extravagance, romance and some degree of embellishments. She peppered her debut outing with a sporty toughness by presenting fencing jackets, knickerbockers, sneakers and knee-length boots. The sportified, gamine sensuality was offset by the softness of Tarot-inspired gowns and dresses.

Ugly chic at Vetements

Today couture isn't just about the rarefied bar jacket or a floor-sweeping gown with a lot of embellishments. With the rise of brands like Vetements (street credo being its core ethos), one sees the rise of the anti-beauty aesthetic. The label's creative head Demna Gvasalia had said, "At Vetements it's always 'It's ugly, that's why we like it'". The label collaborated with Brioni, Schott, Levi’s, Comme des Garçons Shirt, Reebok, Canada Goose, Dr. Martens, Alpha Industries, Eastpak, Lucchesse, and Manolo Blahnik. The waist-high boots in duchess satin stood out driving Instagram into a frenzy.

Raf Simons at Calvin Klein

After endless speculations, Raf was formally appointed as chief creative officer at Calvin Klein, filling the vacant position left by Francisco Costa in April. "The arrival of Raf Simons as chief creative officer signifies a momentous new chapter for Calvin Klein," said Steve Shiffman, CEO of Calvin Klein, Inc. on the brand's Facebook page. "Not since Mr. Klein himself was at the company has it been led by one creative visionary, and I am confident that this decision will drive the Calvin Klein brand and have a significant impact on its future. Raf's exceptional contributions have shaped and modernised fashion as we see it today and, under his direction, Calvin Klein will further solidify its position as a leading global lifestyle brand."

Peter Copping exits Oscar de la Renta

Still shy of his two-year anniversary at Oscar de la Renta LLC, creative director Peter Copping exited the company abruptly. In a statement released by the company, the designer said, “After almost two years at Oscar de la Renta, personal circumstances require me to return to Europe. I have loved my time in New York where I hope to return at some point in the future."

Dior cruise show at Blenheim Palace

Christian Dior went all out for its Resort 2017 outing. The Orient Express, or 'Dioriant' express as it was soon termed, is run by National Rail, and so it departed from London's Victoria station some 45 minutes later than scheduled. Once aboard, tables were set with dimly-lit lamps on white tablecloths with Dior embroidered napkins. Guests were treated to a three-course lunch of smoked salmon blinis and capers, followed by volaille farcie aux champignons, and a blackberry and apricot crumble, accompanied by as much Ruinart champagne.

Gucci rocks Cloisters of Westminster Abbey

Alessandro Michele made a beautiful transition from Victoriana to punk.
The label's cruise show had embroidered cushions on everyone’s seats — a thought derived from little parish churches in the English countryside. Once again slithering snakes - now a Michele insignia crawled on the runway - appearing once on a mink coat and later on a sheer black gown. Tartan suits, gowns and overcoats and studded bombers were distinctly British yet presented with an Italian insouciance. Looks like more is more format is what the new Gucci is all about. In a scenario where most fashion houses are struggling to find a clear-cut point of view, he has managed to give birth to a distinctive style vocabulary in a very short span of time.

Fendi Trevi fountain show

With the couture shows wrapping up in Paris, Fendi shuttled guests by chartered plane to Rome for another haute fourrure show. They clinched the Trevi Fountain of La Dolce Vita fame for the event, fresh off a $2.4 million, one-and-a-half-year rehab. The fountains turned on, and the models started their march over a see-through runway built on top of its pools. It will go down as one of the most majestic show venues ever; few come close, but among them was Fendi’s 2007 show on the Great Wall of China.

New trinity at Salvatore Ferragamo

The Italian brand appointed three designers to the top of its creative team. Fulvio Rigoni and Guillaume Meilland became design directors of women’s and men’s wear, respectively, joining Paul Andrew, the design director of women’s footwear.

Francesco Risso at Marni

Consuelo Castiglioni parted ways with the label. Her husband Gianni, who held the title of president and who co-created the company in 1994, is also leaving, as are their two children – Carolina, director of special projects, and Giovanni, who worked in the operations department. Francesco Risso, a Prada alum, will succeed Castiglioni as creative director of the label. His first collection for Marni will bow for fall 2017.

Dundas parts ways with Cavalli

Roberto Cavalli SpA joined the trend, parting ways with its creative director Peter Dundas and revealing plans for a drastic reorganisation that will result in the cutting of almost 30 percent of its workforce.
Dundas’ last collection for the fashion house was for spring 2017, which was presented in September during Milan Fashion Week.
