You’re playing a special Women’s Day gig, tell us what’s in store?
We’ve got some surprises in store, from a special set by Shiva Soundsystem, to revealing some new material that we’ve been gigging live. Every Shaa’ir + Func show in Mumbai is special, because this is the city that conceived us.
Any message you want to send to the women? Or a wish perhaps?
Own yourself, protect yourself, and aim for solidarity amongst yourselves.
Heard you’re working on a new album as well, tell us more about it?
We’re working on a record that really pays homage to the new India we’re hearing and seeing, more now than ever. It’s been fun to re-imagine ghaati beats, and write a rock n’ roll tune on top of it. Also, I think we have matured quite a bit, so naturally, I hope our next release is more refined...an easier pill to swallow. I’m interested in making music that moves people...moves them on the inside, and moves them to move on the outside.
You have made a mark both as an actor and a musician, but what takes priority now? Is it easy to dabble in both simultaneously?
I see the art of performance and story telling in totality — music and acting are two aspects of the same. I will never choose between the two.
Do we see you on the silver screen anytime soon, again?
My next film Fireflies will release later this year. It was one of those experiences where everyone involved in the making became one, inseparable, and dedicated to the cause of telling this story...
