It’s a girlie day out. Society doyennes empower women entrepreneurs to come out into the open and exhibit their talent.

Araaish, a one-day shopping soiree in aid of the Save the Children India Foundation, co-hosted by siblings Mana Shetty, Rahul Kadri and Isha Mehra as a tribute to their mother, late Mrs Vipula Kadri, will bring together women designers on one platform. The event is being organised by Sharmilla and Shaan Khanna.

Save The Children India was founded by Mana’s mother in 1988, with an aim to serve children from the marginalised sections of society. In aid of the charity, Araaish will offer an opportunity to shop for Navratri and the festive season ahead from leading lifestyle designers. The participants include Queenie Singh, Mana Shetty, Isha Mehra, Maheep Kapoor, Suzanne Roshan, Masaba Gupta, Allure & Manrasa, Shaheen Abbas, Renu Mehra, Sangeeta Khanna, Malaga, among others.

Says Mana, “It’s a fund raiser for the charity; not a business venture. It’s mainly a platform for those who don’t have too many stores. We help them reach out. We don’t have a screening board as such. If we like the product, we decide to get the designer on board. There are about 23 designers participating this time.”

Sharmila explains, “Products from a lot of boutiques don’t get access to fashion shows. So we decided to start an event for such places and do an upmarket show so we’d get people to come and pay for the charity. And the first time we did it, I remember we had got 8,000 women entrepreneurs coming up to participate.”

She adds that women come and hang around all day, sipping on wine and checking out exhibits. “We get on board those women who make amazing stuff but can’t afford to open their own shops. We encourage them to grow,” she smiles.

As Mana recalls, “Masaba Gupta started with us and now she’s moved on and that’s a great thing.”
