We have a 'militant idea' of feminism in India: Kalki Koechlin

In a second part interview, Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin tells Meghna Pant, she loves being a feminist but is threatened by the thought that India has come to believe in a ‘militant idea’ of the concept.

"I think a feminist is somebody who believes in women being humans," says Koechlin. Adding that the word 'feminism' is really about all humans being equal and respecting each other.

Koechlin says while there is no rule book, we should strive to live an authentic life. "Its really about trying to be true to yourself, to be honest and that is easier said than done," she says. Koechlin believes everyone's public persona is lovable, but its moments when you have to stand up to a loved one who disagrees with you, when being honest is not always easy."

Koechlin also reflects on the idea of relationships and feels the "Disney" idea of love is not a healthy view for a true relationship. "We've started growing into this very insular idea of relationships," she says.

"We need love in all forms."

The Margarita with a Straw star, believes one human being cannot provide you with everything. Instead to find the respect in love and to nurture and build "those pillars of strength in every aspect", which includes your friends, family and work colleagues.

In the interview, Koechlin also shares an honest view about the problems with marriage and society's view of it. Koechlin also reveals why she might not re-marry and what the key to a good relationship is to her.
