The editor of British Vogue Alexandra Shulman urged Kate Middleton to choose a wedding dress designed by the Alexander McQueen label, it has emerged.

The recommendation has apparently added to the speculation that Sarah Burton, the fashion house’s creative director, will design the royal bride’s gown, reports The Telegraph.

Buckingham Palace began canvassing for guidance on behalf of Middleton shortly after her engagement was announced in 20110. Stylists and editors were asked to name their ‘top choice’ for the coveted commission.

Fashion industry sources confirmed that Shulman had been approached and had recommended the McQueen label.

"She was asked for her first choice and that choice was McQueen," said a source.

However, Buckingham Palace has refused to comment and McQueen insiders have strongly denied they have won the assignment.
