Arijit Singh

The fresh romantic voice of Arijit Singh forced people to take notice last year even though he has been singing for some time now. His soulful rendition of Phir Le Aaya Dil in Barfi won accolades, while Raabta from Agent Vinod made him climb popular charts. But it was Aashiqui 2 songs which made Arijit an instant romantic voice. It needs to be seen how the young singer will take forward his success.

Kelela

Solange Knowles (who now goes by her first name — and, yes, she’s Beyoncé’s sister) has launched an indie music label. The first album from Saint Records is the 12-track compilation Saint Heron which features a slowburning, sex-fueled jam called Up All Night, by Los Angeles singer Kelela. The track was briefly teased on Kelela’s Cut 4 Me mixtape, where it stood out even among the other forward-thinking dance tracks. Kelela has a sound that is heavily influenced by ’90s-era R&B. “I would like to do Brandy but weirder,” she had said, and she pulls it off beautifully on her perfectly produced songs.

Siddharth Mahadevan

He is son of versatile Shankar Mahadevan. If that was not enough to vouch for his talent, the 20-year-old’s Zinda from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag left no doubts in any cynic’s mind about his calibre. Much before that, the lad had composed a background track for Deepa Mehta’s Midnight’s Children and also done music for a Marathi film called Swapna Tuzha Aani Mazha.

Bhoomi Trivedi

Bhoomi touched skies with Ram Chahe Leela becoming an instant hit. But she struggled for three years before landing the song which worked for her as a singer and performer. The 25-year-old from Baroda came into limelight as a finalist in Indian Idol 5. With the success of her song, Bhoomi surely is in the league of new upcoming talented artistes.

Neeti Mohan

Even as Anushka Sharma hopped and danced in the Valley, it was the spunky voice of Neeti Mohan which touched chords of music lovers. The song was just the beginning as Ishq Wala Love from Student Of The Year made her stand in the front rows of popular chart numbers. The 28-year-old from the pop group Aasma was able to show her calibre under AR Rahman. Raanjhanaa too helped her cement her position in the upcoming young talents to look out for.

Caitlin Rose

Caitlin Rose has a voice that recalls some of the UK’s greats who no longer need last names, women like Loretta and Patsy and Lucinda. Her songs have a modern woman’s bent filled with unsentimental and complicated emotions. It’s a skill she undoubtedly honed with help from her mother, Liz Rose, who has helped pen more than a dozen songs for Taylor Swift, including the Grammy-nominated You Belong With Me. But Caitlin is making a name for herself with an effortlessly precise voice, an indie-rocker’s ease and a country-singer’s way with words. Her song Waitin, off of her sophomore album, The Stand-In, was recently featured on ABC’s hit drama Nashville.
