As ultra violet is the Pantone colour of 2018, it’s time to incorporate it in your closet in a smart and cohesive manner. Both Pre-fall and Spring 2018 ready-to-wear runways are awash with this mild-yet-statement hue. Designer Carolina Herrera in her Pre-fall 18 offering sent out a printed maxi dress in luscious lilac and Versus-Versace went tone on tone by sending out a bold head-to-toe purple ensemble. On the other hand, Rosie Assoulin presented a fluid maxi dress with multiple key hole detailings in their Spring 18 collection. This pale and romantic hue has also been seen on the runways of Jeremy Scott, Longchamp and Valentino.
Our very own King of pop, designer Manish Arora is glad to see the vibrant colour topping the charts. Manish, who has used this hue multiple times in his offerings, says, “I see the colour evolving to home decor and paints as well besides clothing and accessories. As it’s a strong shade, I suggest wearing pops of this colour instead of a single monochrome shade. Wear ultra-violet earrings with a white outfit or an ultra violet T-shirt with a pair of white or black pants.”
DAY TO NIGHT TRANSITION
During the day, one can wear an ultra violet T-shirt with a pair of white or black jeggings and team them up with sneakers and a backpack or use small accessories to subtly introduce this colour in one’s wardrobe. “At night, go more risqué and pair it with a printed dress that has different hues. If you’re feeling experimental, opt for a hair turban to make a smashing statement,” adds Manish.
Designer Shubhika Davda of label Papa Don’t Preach opines that the shade works beautifully both in Indian as well as Western clothing. “We’ve already started seeing it trickling. We used a lot of it in our Bridal couture 2017 collection in saris and tulle lehengas. Even Puma came out with nifty sneakers in the same. Ultra violet is definitely here to stay and it will also get teamed with other interesting colours like mint greens, vibrant sky blues with pops of neon,” she says.
Shubhika adds, “Big tulle skirts in ultra violet lend it a softness and whimsy, team these skirts with a shirt in the day and throw on a crop leather jacket to add the edge to make it more evening. Corsets have also made a big comeback, can team strong wide bottom ultra violet pants with a shirt for the day and a fitted corset in gunmetal grey or silver with the pants for the night.”
GREAT PICK FOR FORMAL DOS
Ultra violet is a rich luscious jewel tone which makes a great pick for formal events and goes well with most skin tones too. Designer Ohaila Khan is rooting for it. “It can go from day to night depending on the outfit in question as well as the make-up and accessories one chooses to style it with,” says she
