Relationships are evolving and changing, and every day you come across a new word that’s coined to describe a situation that you may or may not have encountered at some point in time. The latest one that we came across was being ‘josted’. Coined by gossip editor Lainey Lui to describe a situation where you are neither a boyfriend or a girlfriend, but are a level up from a bootycall. Here are a few examples of celebs who were josted.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Gisele Bundchen

Leonardo DiCaprio probably excels at josting without being aware of it. He does so by keeping things simple and avoids getting into messy, long-term relationships. This way, he avoids facing the cameras on the red carpet or questions about who he is dating as he parts ways with whichever model he is seeing before the award ceremony season. In fact, the last time he brought a date with him to a red carpet event was in 2005, when he was dating model Gisele Bundchen. DiCaprio’s second-longest relationship, with model Bar Refaeli, whom he dated on and off between 2006 and 2011, held an important caveat: no red carpet snaps. “I am there for him and I am at all the events” is how the model justified it to People magazine in 2010. “I just don’t walk in hand-in-hand with him. I don’t see any reason. I don’t need to strike poses with him in front of the cameras,” she added.

Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost

The head writer at Saturday Night Live’s relationship has been fodder for gossip mills with reports of the former choosing not to be photographed with her alleged beau at the Saturday Nigh Life afterparty and not putting up an appearance as a couple at the Emmy’s. While Johansson and Jost’s relationship may have inspired the term. It could also easily describe the relationship of some other popular celebrities who were josted by  their partners.

Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes

Jamie Foxx might offer the excuse of not wanting to offend his friend Tom Cruise, however, that still does not dismiss the fact that for four years he was in a serious relationship with Katie Holmes. Was it embarrassment or just plain pressures of being familiar faces in the limelight, we will never know what really tore them apart.

Rihanna and Drake

Their  relationship began in 2009, but by 2010, Drake was complaining to The New York Times, “She was doing exactly what I’ve done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear.” Drake has always been eager to solidify their relationship status, using billboards, Instagram and his own concerts, Rihanna, on the other hand, was clearly not on the same page even going as far as, telling Vanity Fair in 2015 that her only relationship has been with Chris Brown.

One thing that’s apparent in all of the above is that one partner is more invested in the relationship than the other. And does not mind screaming from the rooftops announcing to the world that they are together. However, that’s the very thing that the other is trying to avoid. And that’s probably what is also tearing them apart.
