If you love North Indian food and you haven’t been to Urban Tadka in Mumbai, then you have probably been living under a rock! The speciality restaurant that already has several branches in the city, has added another one to their kitty. And yet again, this one’s a winner from the word go!

While most of their branches have a dhaba-style décor and feel, the spacious interiors of this outlet are more neutral, with dark wood finish and big chandeliers and lamps casting a warm glow over the 160-cover restaurant. Handpainted murals on the walls add a desi touch to the tadka. But even as you take in the unfamiliar décor, rest assured the menu retains all the familiar, delicious dishes associated with them.

For starters, we go with their bestseller Nimbu Murgh (Rs 329) and the Happy Murgh Kebab (Rs 322). The former is a sure-shot winner with the chunks of chicken combined with ginger, lemon and other Indian spices. The latter lives up to its name and offers succulent chicken kebabs that go well with the drinks on the table. Since we have a vegetarian on the table as well, we call for the Hungama Masala (Rs 279), a flavourful chakna-type mixture of paneer, peanuts, green peas and potatoes. For those who want to try something slightly hatke, we recommend the Tandoori Shakkarkand (Rs 279) for its sweet and smokey taste.

The appetisers have whetted our appetite and we call for Lasooni Palak (Rs 249), Tadkewaali Dal (Rs 249) and Kukkad Koyla Dum Masala (Rs 362). The Lasooni Palak is the dish of the day for us, with the flavour of garlic seeping in through the deliciously-flavoured Palak dish. The chicken dish has a smokey flavour and is suitably impressive. The wheat Rumali Roti (Rs 74) and Garlic Naan (Rs 84) complement the food. Not ones to leave the table without tasting something meetha, we order the Garam Jalebis with Rabdi (Rs 149). It’s a lethal combo and we savour its sweetness long after we are done.

Verdict: Visit Urban Tadka for the sizzle they add to your meal!

At: First floor, Mohid Heights, Opposite MHADA Lane, Four Bungalows, Lokhandwala Road, Andheri West
