How many times have we stepped inside a restaurant, got confused by all the choices and then thought to ourselves, ‘I’ll just have a sandwich, I guess’. But now, you don’t have to ‘settle’ for a sandwich anymore. Chefs in the city have started rustling up unique flavour combos to give your sandwich that added zing. Says Chef Paul Kinny, Culinary Director Bellona Hospitality, “Great sandwiches don’t happen by accident. The key to a good sandwich is soft and textured bread, flavourful spread, hearty filling and a great accompaniment to go with it. After all, a good sandwich makes a good meal.” Mostly savoury and sometimes bordering on the sweet, here’s a look at a few interesting sandwich options that city eateries are offering:

Dish: Apple Coleslaw Sandwich
At: AKA Bistro, Kala Ghoda
Crispy slaw and sweet apple make for a unique combo and is served with a side of crunchy fries. Craving for a healthy late afternoon snack? Try this!
Price: Rs 150

Dish: Magic Mushroom Melt Sandwich
At: Jamjar Diner, Versova
We haven’t seen or heard of many places that serve mushroom sandwiches, so this caught our eye. The star ingredient is served with lots of cheddar, caramelised onions, gouda and rocket inside ciabatta bread.
Price: Rs 360

Dish: Open Lobster Sandwich
At: Fable, Juhu
A creamy lobster filling made with parmesan cheese, cream and grilled zucchini, broccoli and bell pepper, loaded on top of toasted focaccia bread and served with house fries and a barley salad.

Dish: Truffle Roasted Turkey Brie and Avocado Sandwich
At: Drawing Room, The St. Regis, Lower Parel
Chef Himanshu Taneja has prepared a Truffle Roasted Turkey with Swiss Brie and Avocado sandwich that includes Hass avocado grilled in focaccia bread. Healthy and flavourful!

Dish: Pavbhaji Toastie, Mac & Cheese Toastie, Samosa Toastie
At: Bar Bar, Phoenix Market City, Kurla
The Pavbhaji Toastie is full of tawa veggies with lots of butter and onion salsa, while the Mac & Cheese Toastie is a classic combination of three cheese macaroni stuffed in garlic bread. The Samosa Toastie has a full Punjabi Samosa with crust and mint chutney.

Dish: Avocado on Toast
At: The Clearing House, Fort
Smashed avocado, goat cheese, cherry tomatoes and salsa verde are served on gluten-free sorghum toast. A truffle poached egg can be added as an option.

Dish: Croque Monsieur Sandwich
At: The Pantry, Kala Ghoda
Pondicherry gruyere, local ham, bechamel and homemade bacon jam are the recipe for a finger-licking artisanal sandwich.

Dish: Prawn and Sriracha Sandwich
At: The Bandra Project, Bandra (W)
Lightly sautéed prawns are mixed with a crunchy salad and a hint of sriracha for a delicious sandwich.

Dish: Whipped Ricotta & Honey sandwich, Banana Caramel sandwich, Beet Hummus sandwich, Pulled Chicken Toast
At: 212 All Good, Lower Parel
Sliced oranges and quinoa crunch add the much-needed texture to the Whipped Ricotta & Honey sandwich, while the Banana Caramel sandwich has toasted almonds for a bit of crunch. The Beet Hummus comes with pickled beet and honeyed walnuts while the Pulled Chicken Toast comes with french beans, edamame, spring onions, pistachios and honey mustard dressing.
Price: Rs 295 for the first three and Rs 325 for the fourth
