Often even people who have oily or combination facial skin tend to get white flaky patches on their body. This is common in winter when the humidity and temperatures drop. Those with oily or combination skin, may tend to get dry flaky skin as they continue using the same products that are meant to control oil production even in winter, without realising that the skin is producing less oil. Hot showers tend to open the pores and reduce the level of natural oils from the top layer of your skin, leaving it dry and more susceptible to adverse environmental factors. Aggressively rubbing your skin with a towel to dry off is not good for your skin either. Make sure you use a fresh towel regularly to prevent bacteria growth on your old damp towels and use a soft terry cotton towel or antimicrobial cloth if your skin is easily irritated. Post-shower, moisturise immediately because your skin is softer and pores are open, this is the best time to allow your pores to take in as much moisture as they can.

People tend to get white flaky skin due to a lack of moisture. Especially during winters, the drop in temperature wipes off the moisture off the skin, while the dry wind causes white flakes to appear. Low humidity levels make it an ongoing challenge for the skin to retain its own hydration. Using harsh products also takes the moisture out. It is imperative to consult your dermatologist/ cosmetologist for recommended skincare routines that suit your skin type. Before stepping into the shower, go for a quick scrub. Opt for a creamy formula and use a soft-bristled brush to slough away dead skin cells. A mild, soap-free formula that removes dirt and impurities is a good bet. After scrubbing, apply a moisturiser. Those containing macadamia nut oil help in maintaining the optimal moisture balance that your skin needs. One of the most important ingredients to look for in body lotions is humectants, that helps draw the moisture from the air.
