It’s been a season of marrying the petite with the long and towering. Maria Grazia Chiuri at Christian Dior combined a pair of micro shorts with a statement coat which had the house’s iconic Toile de Jouy pattern. 3.1 Phillip Lim teamed a pair of leather shorts with a matching red coat and Philosophy threw a cape coat on top of denim shorts. Similar ensembles were seen at Jil Sander, Off-White, Rochas, Sacai and Louis Vuitton.

Stylist Isha Bhansali says, “The top coats are so voluminous and it’s a cool way to balance them out with a contrasting silhouette.” Also, the high and the low marriage makes for beautiful editorial images. Stylist Mohit Rai is quick to recall Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere’s earlier works at Balenciaga. “Nicolas has always referenced a strong woman and that explains his style of shoulder detailing and technical fabrics,” says Mohit. Guess it’s the designers’ way of asserting tough femininity.
