Move over the usual florals beading and foliage-inspired gota patti! At the recently concluded India Couture Week, designers acros the board flirted with architecture-inspired embroideries, engineering them in graphic formats thus streamlining their design prowess. Designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock — the metaphors for evening glamour and red carpet va va voom in their collection titled, Amour De Junagarh had the grand palace of Junagarh — Rajasthan’s cultural jewel on their minds. Channeling the spirit of a traditional mela, inside the palatial walls of the Juna mahal — the couturiers replicated the structural marvel and living elements from the wilderness on the fabric. They transcribed the innumerable structures of the architectural gem on their feathered and sequinned ensembles taking their visually arresting narrative forward.

SHARP, ANGULAR AND CRYSTALLINE

The form and texture of designer Amit Aggarwal’s design elements were specifically designed to be sharp, angular and crystalline. “I have always been greatly inspired by mathematics and science, which is significantly evident in my design ideology. This inspiration has come from my childhood watching my father’s engineering projects, and so mathematical calculations, industrial blueprints and geometric patterns are crucial elements that I incorporate when it comes to embroidery and to create an aesthetic for the brand,” says Amit.

ART DECO INSPIRED

The synonym for evening glamour and surface texturing — designers Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna’s collection brought together the traditional and the new age with beaten gold appliques mixed with the liquid shine of crystals. The strong geometric patterns beaded with elaborate embellishment reminds of the Art Deco Era captured in their free-flowing silhouettes with dazzling silver leather applique, translucent sequins, intricate Indian traditional techniques and crystals with fringe details.
