Over the years, designer Rimzim Dadu has changed the way we perceive chiffon — tearing it into strips, making cords out of it and sewing them together to create the sari pallu. Taking this technique ahead, she’s also experimented with off-kilter materials like steel wires and zari and this season at the recently concluded fashion week in Delhi, she toyed with faux leather to let her pieces emit more sheen, making them super light and nimble.

Her SS19 line-up saw her employing techniques of lace-making and stencilling to unleash magic. A chiffon cord floral lace jacket in coral red became the talking point which took 400 hours of craftsmanship. “It’s a statement piece which is versatile. Throw it on top of anything — it could be a sari, a cool blouse or a pair of jeans and spice up your outfit. Or style it with a pair of black pants for an evening formal look. It also helps you do that seamless day to night transition. Alternatively, belt it up with a sari with a jacket blouse,” says Rimzim.
