We all have heard at some time or other that in order to stay healthy we need to give up our love for computer and mobile screens. Rather log off from social network sites to log into a healthy lifestyle. But what if we could find health options on our screens? Can’t we stay online and still remain fit, connected to both our virtual friends and real health? I guess, we can. And here’s  how…

Follow and garner support
Avoid following those who brag about eating tons of junk and still claim to stay ‘healthy’. Great advice on healthy eating and fitness is available on Twitter if you follow the right people. Also, when we follow and are followed by people of same interests, we tend to stick to our regimes. Facebook has numerous communities which share information on healthy eating, right exercise and various benefits of different fitness regimes. Connecting to such communities, boards and people also inspire us to stay fit. The motivational value of these sites cannot be overlooked.

Find healthy info, and recipes
Who says we have to see what our board or wall shows us? We can choose what we want to see. Pinterest gives us options to decide what we want on our board. We can pin favourite recipes and try them out. Also, it is overflowing with practical resources, for example, which fruits and veggies are in season, the basics of herbs, and how to cut an onion, etc. The site is also a clearinghouse for thousands of healthy recipes, eating plans, fitness programmes, and inspirational quotes. So is twitter. One can follow who they want to. Many popular physical trainers and diet experts keep on tweeting about healthy tips. We can not only follow them but also interact with them and ask questions when in doubt. Facebook too provides with communities which help share healthy recipes.

Eye-candy
We eat with our eyes as well as our stomachs, and sites like Instagram and Pinterest help us make healthy food mouth wateringly can’t-wait-to-eat enticing. A picture of a healthy salad would make us make one, and mind it, it is a happy temptation so no asking for forgiveness here. Also, pictures of those fab ab people on Instagram can make us crave, for a body like that. ‘Why cant I have what they have’ will induce us to work towards a healthy lifestyle. A good picture of yours on Facebook will generate many likes and positive comments. The self-gratifying gesture may seem narcissist but if it helps us stay healthy why not do it?

Healthy on road

Even the staunchest opponent of social media will have to agree that it is one of the best ways to stay healthy when we are travelling. Our posts on Facebook, Pinterest information and tweets help us fight those on-road temptations. Junk becomes a part of the journey and we tend to consider it normal to eat anything unhealthy when far from home. But our friends and guides on social networking sites can help us stick to  eating healthy.
