The recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week saw designers flirting with facial tattoos, elongated bindis, big volume hair and goth smoky eyes. Beauty maven Donald Simrock, official make-up artist at LFW reinterpreted the make-up of the timeless and romantic Indian bride  at Sabyasachi’s finale. Burgundy eyes with accents of gold and lip, which was reminiscent of a cashmere beige sweater stood out. He kept the cheekbones very bare with highlights and opted for burgundy shadow. The hair complementing the ensembles was chic and classic ranging from a chignon pony to a mid-parting pony. “Illumination is the hottest trend this season. Transparent skin with luminous glow is the way ahead,” he shares.

Tarun Tahiliani’s opening show saw classic nude make-up and wine-toned lips let the statement-making ensembles do all the talking. Side-parted and center-parted hair were artfully tied into buns at the back leaving a few strands loose conveying nonchalance and whimsy. On the other hand, Sanjay Garg models sported classic nude make-up and oblong smokey eyes and hair were tied neatly into a pony bun at the back. The nude natural look with tightly tied hair felt monastic and was a great accent for the rich gold garments which glowed in the parking lot of the venue hotel.

Tribal meets modern

Make-up expert Kapil Bhalla says, “The writing on the models’ faces at Suhani Pittie’s show was great. The facial tattoos and doodles is a cool trend. It’s a kinetic mix between tribal and modern.”

At Ashish N Soni, hair ranged from frizzy to sleek giant up-dos to blonde tresses to fringed bouffants (reminiscent of the iconic Brigitte Bardot frolicking on the virgin beaches South of France) took the monochrome and evening narrative ahead. Model Archana Akhil Kumar’s blonde transformation brought to mind the Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner hair swap at the Balmain show last season.

Big hair vibe

Stylist Aastha Sharma seconds that, “I loved the big hair vibe at the Ashish N Soni show where there was a cool push on the volume. I liked the dislocated eyebrows at Quirkbox. I also liked the long straight bindi look at Chola and Chirag Nainani which can be worn with both Indian and Western ensembles.”
