Stage set for eighth edition of World Sacred Spirit Festival

Its time for Rajasthan to resonate with the sounds of serenading music. For the eighth year in a row, the Mehrangarh Museum Trust will enchant the music aficionados of India with World Sacred Spirit Festival (WSSF). Known to present the most beautiful of sacred traditions from the Orient, the East and Africa, WSSF will take a step further in enchanting its guests with an impressive line-up of artists in a stunning royal setting. Kick starting in Nagaur on February 9, the festival will culminate in Jodhpur on February 15.

For the eighth year in a row, the Mehrangarh Museum Trust will enchant the music aficionados of India with World Sacred Spirit Festival (WSSF). Known to present the most beautiful of sacred traditions from the Orient, the East and Africa, WSSF will take a step further in enchanting its guests with an impressive line-up of artists in a stunning royal setting. Kick starting in Nagaur on February 9, the festival will culminate in Jodhpur on February 15.

With the grandeur and breathtaking Ahichhatragarh and Mehrangarh Fort as the backdrop, WSSF will be a confluence of some of renowned sacred international talents. Six days and nights of magical art in form of dance, music and poetry, will be an unforgettable experience. From the Indian fusion group Midival Punditz to the Iranian, Nour Ensemble, the schedule will offer variety of performances.

Patron of the festival, international singer Sting said, "Over the years, WSSF has become one of the awaited music festivals that stages artists from across the globe who satiates the sacred music desire of the music enthusiasts. We hope our guests have an experience to remember and soak themselves into the sacred sound of music."

World Sacred Spirit Festival co-director, Princess Shivranjani Rajye, also said, "WSSF is a perfect example of a seamless union of art, music and rich heritage that Rajasthan has to offer. We feel proud to announce the eighth edition of WSSF, as we take one more step towards making rustic Rajasthan into a global platform for international sacred artists. We are confident guests will be spellbound with what the festival offers."

The Mehrangarh Museum Trust is India's leading cultural institution established in 1972 by the 36th custodian of Marwar- Jodhpur; Maharaja Gaj Singh II, who brought the fort alive to visitors.

Today Mehrangarh Museum has a unique importance as a repository of the artistic and cultural history of the large areas of Central Rajasthan and Marwar-Jodhpur, ruled by the Rathore Dynasty. Apart from the museum, the trust is at the forefront of conservation and restoration, a generous patron of the arts and music and a lively centre of academic study.

The Mehrangarh Museum Trust's commitment and perseverance towards the conservation and rehabilitation of the Fort sets a unique example in the field of Historic rehabilitation. Mehrangarh Museum Trust is a recipient of the UNESCO ASIA-PACIFIC Award in the field of architectural conservation, cultural heritage and adaptive reuse, Award of Distinction by UNESCO in 2005, Fassa Bortolo Italy in 2011 and Hadrian Award in 2006 by World Monuments Fund. Ahichatragarh Fort, Nagaur managed by the Mehrangarh Museum Trust was recently shortlisted for the famous Aga Khan Award for Architecture.

Some of the major attractions this year are Druk Yul Trio from The Kingdom of Bhutan; Li Daiguo, Pipa, Cello and Beatbox from China; Collaboration of Mukhtiyar Ali from India & Mathias Duplessy of France; The homegrown group Divana Pandit Kushal Das amongst others.
