Singer Anushka Manchanda on why you won’t find happiness until you think you can

I was 17, and my family was migrating to the US, when my dog bit my face. More than 200 stitches later, the side of my top lip was sown back together. We could not join my father in the US.

Post my first operation, one side of my lip was visibly swollen and I had a hard scar on my upper lip. I looked at myself in the mirror, in disbelief often, until I decided that I would not make this a big deal.

S*%t happens to everybody—you, me, your neighbour, your superstar, your president. ‘YOU’ can decide how to react.  

As for me, this is what happened. Barely a few months after my accident, I received a call, from a channel, to audition for a pop band. I went, won, scar and all, and the rest is history. We loved my doggy and he stayed with us till his end.

The thing is... I chose to be happy. I decided to find the light. And if I could, so can you.
