While Rajasthan is a wonderfully vibrant state, with its many cities adding different flavours to the experiences of a traveller, one can’t help but fall in love with Jodhpur. The Blue City is an enchantress. I travelled to the city with the plan of spending just one day here. However, one day turned into four and I still didn’t feel like I had enough of it. Though you will never fall short of things to do, places to see, and food to eat here, if you are strapped for time, here’s what I recommend you do during your visit.

Visit the villages

Desert safari

Many villages in Jodhpur are known for their artwork like pottery, weaving, etc. A number of local tour companies provide you with a chance to visit and see how locals go about creating these pieces of art. A full-day tour will not only give you an opportunity to visit the villages but also a chance to purchase some unique artworks.

Ready, stead, zip

Ziplining

Did you know that Christian Bale was here when he was shooting for The Dark Knight Rises? The beautiful Mehrangarh Fort is also a great spot to indulge in some adrenaline-pumping adventure activity. You can zip from one point of the fort to another and enjoy the view of the beautiful blue city, which is spread out before you.

Meeting Mehrangarh

Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort should be explored at leisure. Don’t make the mistake of adding it to a day which is full of other activities. The majestic Fort is every photographer’s delight. I walked inside at about 10.30 am and left the fort around 5 pm. It offers a glimpse of the rich heritage of this land.

Food for thought

Rajasthani food offers a huge variety. For those who love non-vegetarian food, it’s laal maas that you will fall head-over-heels in love with. For the vegetarians, there’s a lot too. Try bajra roti, kadhi, ker sangri, gatta curry, dal baati churma, and a lot of namkeen stuff, too. Among the famous eateries there is Shandar Sweet Home, which is located at Jalori Bari Road. It was recommended by the locals and is a bustling place. Try the thali at Gypsy restaurant, which is located at Sardarpura.

Retail therapy

Sardar Market

No trip to Rajasthan can be complete without a visit to one of its local markets. Not only can you pick knick-knacks here, but you can also see the culture of the city from close quarters. Head to Sardar Market near the Clock Tower where you can buy everything from jutis and embroidered odhnis to silver jewellery and lac bangles.

Go glamping

Luxurious camping

While camping may not be everyone’s cup of tea, you can enjoy a luxurious night at one of the many camps here. You might have to shell out some more money, but the experience definitely will be worth it.
