This new procedure is said to lift sagging skin, add volume and improve the face shape

If you're looking for an alternative to botox or the usual anti-ageing procedures, Silhouette Soft could be the answer. Advocated by Dr Jean-Louis Sebagh who's known for his A-list clients, this technique is similar to a thread lift and can be completed within an hour. It's said to fight the effects of ageing, leaving skin not just soft and smooth but also tones. The lifting effect is due to the result of compressing and elevating tissue at the time of adjusting the suture. After inserting the suture, the slight pressure is put on the treated area, reshaping the surface of the skin.

Dr Mohan Thomas, leading cosmetic surgeon and owner, Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Institute explains Silhouette soft is an invasive non-surgical procedure which is advocated to restore volume, reduce wrinkles and redefine the face. "It is a bi-directional absorbable thread cone which works in a dual capacity of lifting and regenerating. The effect of lifting happens immediately at the time of the procedure due to the elevation of the tissues at the time of adjusting the suture. The regenerative effect is due to the Polylactic acid material that the thread is made off. This material is completely bio-degradable and as it gets absorbed it stimulates the skin to produce collagen. The results may last up to 18 months. In Indian skin, they usually last for about six months as the skin is heavier causing it to droop further," says Dr Thomas. He further warns that side effects can include some minor swelling and bruising. However, these threads are very safe when carried out by doctors who are well versed with the blood supply and nerve supply of the facial skin and muscles.

Silhouette soft is relatively safe, requires minimal skill and can be done in an office setting under local anaesthesia says Dr Aamod Rao, Cosmetic Surgeon, Nu Cosmetic Clinic. "The patient can be done in an hour and get back to work later that day. Compared to regular thread lifts it is easier and does not involve any skin cutting. The only drawback is that the lift is not as much as in a regular thread lift. For women looking for anti-ageing solutions, surgical is the best option. Those who don't want to undergo surgery can go for a combination of threads fillers and botox which give good results," he says.

Dr Sama Rais, cosmetologist, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, says Sihouette soft involves the use of new generation threads used for thread lifts. "While regular threads are made of polydioxanone and have a tightening or a regenerative effect, they do not have cones hence may not have a lifting effect. The number of threads required may vary from say 5 – 20 per side of the face depending on the age of the patient and the correction required. Whereas Silhouette Soft threads are made up of bidirectional reabsorbable cones of polylactic acid which is considered so far as the safest material. Also, fewer number of threads are required maybe as less as 2 -3 per side of the face when treating with Silhouette Soft."
