It’s time to put on your traditional best, go glam with your hair and make-up and party till the wee hours of the morning. Getting dressed for Diwali can be confusing with a variety of trends to choose from. From bold lips to beautiful updos, and luminous skin, experts suggest ways to stand out...

GO FOR BUNS AND BRAIDS

It’s the festive season and there’s no easier way to feel glamorous than with a blow out, ironed curls or waves. Add some braids for that extra oomph or an accessory, which complements the make-up and the hairstyle. Anisha Fernandes Tavares, senior stylist and make-up artist  from Nalini of Nalini & Yasmin Salon, says if going for a traditional look, accessorise with a traditional maang tikka. “For an Indo-Western style, one can choose styles like messy buns and accessorise with bead pins, flowers, scrunchies, etc. Along with styling, personalise the look with balayage or highlights that will define the styling even more. One can opt for caramel, brown- blondes or burgundy depending on ones skin tone and the desired look,” she says.

ALL ABOUT THE LIPS

This season completely revolves around your lips. It’s ombré ruling the game. “This two-tone lipstick looks simply wow and is easy to try on. A darker shade on the periphery of your pout and a lighter tint in the inner will do its magic. For eyes, the Cut Crease Arabic look is winning with its dramatic results. To get this look, you’ve to design your crease sharply using a dark colour. Contrast it with bright eye shadows to beautifully define your eyes,” says Ishika Taneja, make-up expert and executive director, Alps Group. In terms of colours, emerald green, lavender, sapphire blue, shimmery cobalt, gold, fuchsia work well for the eyes. Go deep with mulberry, blackberry, raspberry and cranberry lip hues. Have fun with glitter. Either part your hair as you desire and dab a thick coat of glitter on your hair roots or you can also infuse some glitter onto your eyes. Glitter eyeliners can add to the wow factor. For the day, keep your lips neutral, line your lids with kohl, a coat of mascara with a soft dab of blush over your cheeks is all you need. For night, turn yourself into a glistening diva; go for bold lips and add some glitter on your eyes, too. You can also give an ombré effect on your eyes.

SKIN ESSENTIALS

A personalised regimen of skin care is the best way to get your dream skin. One can also go for quick lunch- time treatments, and should avoid those like laser resurfacing and strong chemical peels which have a downtime. Dr Apratim Goel, dermatologist and laser surgeon, Cutis Skin Solution recommends some treatments. “Fractional Carbon laser treatment, is a quick half-an-hour fix to get rid of troubled skin such as blemishes, freckles, marks and scars. A medifacial or a clean-up can also be done according to your skin type. Instant glow peel, which involves steps like deep cleansing, gentle scrub, a mild peel and a face pack will leave you with soft, glowing skin. Botox is always an option, there’s also devices like Exilis and  Venus legacy to lift and tighten your face.”
