If you’re into music, and by that we don’t mean just listening but rather wish to learn and pursue a career then this will be of interest to you. The True School of Music in the city is dedicated to creating India’s next generation of professional musicians by giving music the width and depth it deserves towards shaping the future of contemporary music in India. We spoke to the CEO about their Musicpreneur philosophy at the school.
Concept of a musicpreneur
“The courses we offer at True School of Music assist in creating musicpreneurs. The concept of a musicpreneur is of creating entrepreneurs in the fi eld of music.” says Julia Leggett, the current CEO of The True School of Music and former chief executive of he Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM), UK. She has experienced the concept in the UK, where students can create a career for themselves in TV, films, songwriting, teaching, etc. It’s a trend in the UK, which the school set here.
Courses
The Musicpreneur program has different courses under its belt — Performance courses (guitar, drums, vocals, keyboard, bass), Music Production, Studio and Live Sound and Djing. There are three levels each course, each level spanning a period of 11 months. The fi rst two levels are part-time and the third is full time.
Ideal for whom?
Anybody who is passionate about music and is serious about pursuing a career in music can opt for it. The ‘musicpreneur’ philosophy will be the backbone of their entire learning. The pro level courses are for ages 16 and above. Auditions will be conducted for candidates to gauge their understanding of music theory, techniques of musical instruments, questions on their aspirations so on. Candidates are expected to have a basic knowledge in music and desire to pursue a career in music. There are also part time foundation courses for children ageing eight to 16 years old, informs Leggett.
Faculty
The faculty has been sourced internationally and they have partnerships with music schools abroad. As for placements, there’s a dedicated placement cell that helps secure placements for students even during the course. Also, they maintain rapport with students even once they done with the course and working.
