when Jayshree was celebrating the joy of giving birth to a baby boy, she was diagnosed with dengue and was treated in the ICU for almost a month. While Jayshree’s family prayed for her speedy recover, her illness took a toll on her system and she suffered a multi-organ failure. Tracheotomy caused her vocal chords to become partially paralysed, due to which she lost her voice. Shattered, she turned into a recluse, avoiding her family and friends too!

Her husband, Vaijanath, a keen marathoner and a Comrades finisher, urged her to take up running as he was certain that it would help her get on with life. He encouraged her to join his running group, Topgear.

Initially, it was tough for Jayshree as she was suffering from the side-effects of medication like acidity, loss of energy and enthusiasm. But with great determination and closely monitored training, she decided to participate in a half marathon, with her husband’s immense encouragement. After six months of training, she finished her half marathon in 2.20 minutes. Running has improved Jayshree’s health.  She witnessed a dramatic improvement in her mood and life. Today, she looks forward to her training sessions and is a happier person.
