For famished working professionals this side of town, there are very few options. Tucking into a piping hot home-cooked tiffin is a luxury for most. And while there are eateries you can choose from most have a long waiting time that drives you up the wall. And if that’s not a deterrent, a minimum delivery tab is another roadblock you have to cross especially if you are the sole one ordering takeaway. Enter Asia on my Plate a quick service restaurant that promises to change the way you eat.
To make things simpler for you, you can pick from chef specials for the day. Make your own combo meal. The first time we dropped by, we tried the Asian Surprise Combo Veg (Rs149) which was served with hakka noodles and a mushroom gravy, which was delicious. We also picked the Asian Delight Combo (Non-veg) for Rs229 (you get any one noodle/rice or any two asian curries).
and gorged on Lapkai (a spicy Thai chicken salad) for (Rs150) a definite must-try. It’s refreshing and makes for a light meal. We shared a bowl and yet there was enough for two. Our chicken Thai red curry and Hang Chaw Fish Gravy went well with the burnt garlic rice, though the latter just had a hint of garlic and tasted more like regular fried rice. When quizzed about this we were informed that this was done, keeping in mind customer taste and feedback. All the dishes arrived quickly and we did not have to wait around. However, we were not so lucky, when we ordered in, we went for the Asian Surprise Combo veg again, and while both the Thai curry and Malaysian curry were good, we can’t say the same for the rice, which was not cooked properly.
Located next to Deepak Cinema, this one-week-year-old joint has a lot going for it. To begin with the menu is Pan Asian, so you can enjoy dishes that have the piquancy and tang of Thailand, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. On the health front, you can be at ease, as they avoid using ajinomoto and incorporate a lot of veggies, with the freshest ingredients in the dishes. Also, since the focus is on quick service, the waiting time has been drastically cut down, if you drop by at the eatery. However, that’s not the case if you order in. While placing the order we were told it would arrive in 35 minutes, however, despite the proximity, our order arrived 12 minutes late. The staff while helpful, needs to tone down while making food recommendations, as it can be a bit annoying when you feel you are being forced to try something you don’t want to.
You don’t have to worry about a minimum order amount as the eatery promises to deliver even if you are the only one placing an order. The area covered is from Lower Parel to Elphinstone Road.
The consistency of the dishes is not uniform. Some have too much salt, and we brought this to the attention of the staff who readily promised to rectify the same.
