Poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar's contribution to Hindi literature was today remembered at a memorial here on his 43rd death anniversary.

Leading sanitation NGO Sulabh International conferred three awards and announced the launch of a special Hindi dictionary on the occasion.

Poet Sharda Prasad Saidpuri was conferred with the first Dinkar Sulabh Sahitya Samman for his contribution to Hindi literature and promoting Dinkar's work.

The Sulabh Sanitation award was given to a vernacular newspaper and a social activist Sanjay Sukla, who belongs to of Betul district of Madhya Pradesh for highlighting the issues related to sanitation.

The founder of the NGO, Bindeshwar Pathak, said, "You are aware of the huge literary and cultural contribution of Dr 'Dinkar'. He wrote several outstanding poems and pieces of prose. One of his remarkable books is 'Sanskriti ke Char Adhyaya', which won him the Sahitya Academy Award." This dictionary would carry popular words of English as well as all other Indian languages which are being used commonly in Hindi, he said.

Eminent poets, sanitation activists, politicians and other dignitaries attended the 'Dinkar' Memorial Lecture to remember the poet.

Former Sikkim Governor and scholar Balmiki Prasad Singh called upon the youngsters to follow the path of great poets like Dinkar who tried to ignite the young minds towards nationalism.

BJP's Vice President and Lok Sabha member C P Thakur termed Dinkar as a true nationalist who served the nation and society through his powerful writings.

National Book Trust chairman, Baldeo Sharma recalled Dinkar as one of the finest scholars of India.

Dinkar was an Indian Hindi poet, essayist, patriot and academic, who is considered as one of the most important poets of modern Hindi literature.

He was conferred with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1959 for his work 'Sanskriti ke Char Adhyaya' and received Padma Bhushan in 1959 by the Government of India.
