Bhushan, a microbiologist who runs a firm with her husband in Pune, never forgot her relative's face and 15 years later, she has now developed a herbal remedy for inhibiting abnormal hair growth in men and women, a work which was today recongnised by the government along with 29 other innovations.
She was awarded the department of science and technology (DST) - Lockheed Martin award along with 29 others at a function here.
The technology is all natural, plant based creme establishment of plant derived lecting that inhibits hair growth in men and women of all ages, the citation read.
"I was a microbiology student when I saw one of my relatives having abnormal hair growth. She lost confidence and started avoiding public. Then I decided one day, I will develop something which could be of help," Bhushan, who is planning to launch the product in six months, said.
Another innovation which was awarded today was by Dr Shyam Vasudeva who developed '3netra' - a portable, non-intrusive and low-cost camera that helps in pre-screening of five eye diseases cataract, diabetic retina, glaucoma, cornea disorders and refractive index measurements.
Nelvin Joseph won the award for his innovation 'aritificial intelligence based power management system' which is a technology bundle capable of saving up to 47 per cent of power from electronic and electrical devices using artificial intelligence based algorithms.
'Nano Ganesh' was another project which won the recognition. It is a mobile-based remote control system for agriculture water pumps and diesel generator sets.
The awards, which carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh, a certificate and a medal, were presented by T Ramasami, Secretary of Department of Science and Technology and Roy O Johnson of Lockheed Martin.
