Celebrity power couples tend to grab eyeballs for their powerful pairings. Whether it’s Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie or Beyonce and Jay Z, they make for interesting gossip. There are some though who prefer to marry those that are away from the limelight in the hope to get some form of normalcy. From Matt Damon to George Clooney, here are some stars who married folks in different professions.

George and Amal Clooney 
George Clooney tied the knot at 53, with 36-year-old Amal Alamuddin, a human rights lawyer and activist. The duo, who had a whirlwind romance, exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in Italy with close family and friends in attendance. The Oxford and NYU-alumni Amal is fluent in three languages and has been making headlines for her sartorial choices. Even one year after their marriage, George can’t seem to stop gushing about her. “She’s an amazing human being. And she’s caring. And she also happens to be one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. And she’s got a great sense of humour.”

Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso
The couple who recently celebrated their 10th anniversary are also parents to four kids. Matt met his wife at Miami beach where he was shooting for a film and she was a bartender. It was love at first sight for the actor. He said in a recent interview about the secret to his marriage, “We have a two-week rule. I’m not away for more than two weeks. I think you need to be with the person you love as much as possible. My wife is my soulmate. I don’t like being apart from her.”

Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink
McDreamy met his wife when he dropped into her salon for a hair cut. The couple who were with other people then, got together a few years later and married in 1999. Jillian is now known as a make-up expert and the couple have three children together. Though they filed for divorce last year after 15 years of marriage, it’s since been reported that they’re trying to make it work. This just in: they’ve called off the divorce.

Julia Roberts and Danny Moder
Julia met her cameraman husband Danny while she was shooting for The Mexican in 2000. The couple who completed their 13th anniversary have three children together. When asked for tips she’d give other couples, Julia said, “I don’t think it’s exclusive to entertainment couples. I wouldn’t even think of us as an entertainment couple, but I don’t know. Kissing.”

Jerry Seinfeld & Jessica Sklar
Jerry and Jessica initially met at a sports club when she was a PR executive for a clothing brand. She was married to someone else at the time, but soon started dating Seinfeld post her honeymoon. The duo were married in 1999 and have three kids together. As for the secret to their happy marriage, Jessica says, “Chicken parmesan! It’s why Jerry wanted to marry me. It remains the glue of our family.”

Meryl Streep and Don Gummer
Meryl tied the knot with Don, a sculptor in 1978 and have since been going strong. The duo who were introduced to each other by Meryl’s brother have four children together. At the 2012 Academy Awards, the actress said, “First I’m going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music, and I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you’ve given me.”

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth
Reese and hubby Jim, a talent agent, got together when he apologised for his drunk friend who was hitting on her. The couple have already completed four years of marriage and are parents to a son. She said of her husband, “I have to say a very healing part of my life is my wonderful husband, Jim It’s really wonderful being with somebody who supports me, who loves me, who is my No. 1 fan. That is such an incredible experience.”

Nicolas Cage and Alice Kim
Nicolas first set his eyes on Alice when she was a waitress at an LA restaurant. They tied the knot in 2004 and the pair also have a son called Kal-El. Despite their 20-year age gap the duo seem to be going strong and still enjoy occasional date nights.

Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput

It came as a surprise to B-Town when news broke of Shahid’s marriage to Delhi-based Mira, till then unknown college student and when he later confirmed it. He had mentioned in earlier interviews that he wanted to marry someone who’s not part of the film industry. The duo had an intimate wedding ceremony last July in the capital, followed by a starry reception in Mumbai.

John Abraham and Priya Runchal
John married Priya, a US-based investment banker in 2014. The couple who dated for a few years prior had a secret ceremony and announced their marriage via Twitter. Since then, the couple haven’t been spotted together much and John has kept a low profile.
