Suppandi and Shikari Shambu are some of the most loved characters in Indian comics. They came into our lives in 1983 when Tinkle brought them into their comic world. The two regaled us with their antics and buffoonery and now, Suppandi and Shambu are online!
Earlier this year, Tinkle brought in augmented reality for their comics when they tied up with visual browser Blippar India. Now, Tinkle has launched a cartoon channel on YouTube with stories from Suppandi and Shambu.
Neel Paul, Creative Director of Amar Chitra Katha Pvt Ltd. Children, says that they chose YouTube over television because they preferred content on demand versus linear TV and digital was the way they could connect with kids of the new generation. He says, “We wanted to put out content that we not only own and control ourselves, but are also available for our fans on demand, at their leisure, rather than being bound by air-times, etc. YouTube gives us a platform which allows us to communicate with our viewership like never before, through the comments section and gives us the opportunity to be far more connected to our audience.”
The stories they have picked for their channel are going to be as funny and engaging as the comics. Fans of Suppandi and Shambu can rest assured that there is a lot in store from the two. “A lot more spills from Shambu, thrills from the Defective Detectives and antics from Suppandi. We are also exploring other characters to bring in to the Suppandi and Friends universe, but more about that at a later date,” says Neel.
