Talking of weddings, we have a significant one coming up in Mumbai later this month when Novartis India chief Ranjit Shahani and HR College principal Dr Indu Shahani’s son ties the knot with Rachna Doshi — who happens to be an HR-ite. We hear that Siddharth insisted on keeping things earthy and low key, so the wedding itself will be a modest morning ceremony affair followed by an intimate dinner for just family and close friends. But while he’s been firmly against any 5-star opulence, Siddharth has been busy shopping for gifts to distribute at a celebratory luncheon he’s organising for the entire staff of HR College — including almost 60 of the institution’s hard working peons, most of whom have seen him growing up. However, despite his protests, he has been prevailed upon to allow a lively sun-downer as a run-up to the wedding.
Close family friends of the Shahanis — BP India head Sashi Mukundan and his affable wife Sandhya — have gone ahead and organised quite a party at their sprawling sea facing residence in Bandra to spread the cheer. The pre-wedding cocktail party scheduled for this week will carry the their signature warmth and creativity as they welcome some of the city’s best known industrialists, bankers and corporate honchos for what will undoubtedly be the house of the month. Sandhya has personally designed the invites and we hear that there are some surprises in store, but the vibe will be classy-meets-cutting edge — so think ice bars, molecular meals, neon light decor and DJ in the air. Here’s a toast to the delightfully understated couple and their families who’ve chosen homely get togethers and genuine social bonding over yet another run-of-the mill hotel wedding.
