The BSPCA’s musical extravaganza will bring together three young student groups for a cause
This Wednesday, a bunch of young, talented musicians will regale you with a variety of jazz, rock, pop, classic and fusion tracks at the Tata Theatre, NCPA. Presented by The Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) and the Bai Sakarbhai Dinshaw Petit Hospital, this concert is special as the proceeds will go towards the treatment of animals.
The performing groups include The Cheese Quartet consisting of students from the Cathedral & John Connon School, the A Team comprising students from Cathedral & John Connon School, the Dhirubhai Ambani and the American School and The Students of the NCPA Special Music Training School.
Brinda Khatau, executive committee member of Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital and BSPCA fundraising committee member, explains that their activities have always been children-centric. “Our idea is to make children more compassionate towards animals,” she says. Since in India, most music is Bollywood-oriented, they specifically chose bands that will expose kids to other genres.
“We want funds to improve our adoption facilities. We have many puppies and kittens that are healthy or recovering from a small injury and ready to be adopted. Their survival rate is low when left on the streets,” she adds.
Aryaman Meswani, a 14-year-old student who plays the tabla for the A Team, says, “The main draw for us was the cause. All four of us bandmates are animal lovers. It is also an honour to perform at the NCPA.” His band, which got together in October last year, consists of eighth and ninth grade students. Aryaman adds, “We are planning to play some pop songs as well as some retro numbers, with an Indian touch. Expect to sing along to tracks like the Beatles’ Hey Jude, Rolling in the Deep by Adele, Cry Me A River and more.”
