At the recently concluded Paris Fashion Week, some designers took inspiration from our very own diverse land. Boy, did they make us proud!

Kenzo
So you think, Indian temples are boring and drab? You might be in for a shock to know that Japanese fashion house Kenzo's latest collection at the fashion week was inspired by ancient Indian temples and heritage. The designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, showcased outfits infused with temple bricks and serpent prints. Their collection didn't have the usually very Indian ensembles such as lehengas and saris, but instead presented long jackets and pants, wrap skirts and trademark loud Indian prints.

Manish and Amrapali
Designer Manish Arora collaborated with Amrapali at the Fall/Winter Paris Fashion Week. The collection showcased had an interesting concoction of Indian heritage designs along with conceptual designs. On the clothes, we saw geometric motifs and borders along with lustrous holographic stones, matt gold, lacquer coating and beads translated the psychedelic mirage forms from Burning Man. We saw shades of blue, black, navy blue and green as the base along with the stimulants of metallic gold. The jewellery was traditional yet contemporary with ring designs, illuminated bold coloured stones, cuffs and necklaces that had detailed application of enamel in Manish's signature style (read bold). He also added some fun by showcasing turban jewels, nose rings and some traditional necklaces of Rajasthan. To sum up, the collection was a lethal balance between the contemporary style of Amrapali and Manish Arora’s flamboyant and futuristic designs. Kudos!

Acne Studios
When Tilda Swinton attended the Acne Studios Fall 2013 show the crowds were seen cheering. But when the label showcased their collection, the audiences cheered for India. We tell you why? Bringing together the East and West, the label presented modern dhoti pants paired with traditional jackets and blazers. The label's exquisite creations designed in solid tones and smart silhouettes were certainly very inspired by the bold colour palette and artisans in India.

Maiyet
Maiyet’s show was inspired by a voyage through the Himalayas and featured some beautiful handwoven silks from India, cashmere socks from Mongolia and jewellery, which included stud bracelets from Indonesia. The fashion jury said that some of the best looks came in red such as one hand block printed tank top, and slim pleated pants were seen at this show.
