Fresh from the backwaters
As the festive season peeps into your home, Ente Keralam brings you the Kuttanadan Food Festival. Try the traditionally cooked Karimeen Pollichathu — pearl spot fish from Aleppey wrapped in banana leaf and grilled, Kakka Erachi — clam meat with onions and seasoning dry fry, Erachi Chap — Tenderloin slices cooked in a mildly spiced gravy, Kuttanadan Kalanji Curry — Kuttanadan-style preparation of the Kalanji fish and Tharavu Roast — duck cooked in thick roasted onion and coconut. All the dishes are prepared using traditional recipes and ingredients in earthenware, which gives it a special flavour. These dishes are served with toddy.

Donuts go desi
If you are a donut lover, then the new range at Mad Over Donuts are a must try because keeping the festive theme in mind, this donut maker has come out with four special flavours that derive inspiration from traditional Diwali mithai. The mouth-watering varieties range from Boondi Bomb, which is dipped in the signature glaze and topped with a burst of boondi, melon seeds and a dark chocolate drizzle. Another must try is the Ka-boom, where the donut is dipped in milk chocolate with an explosion of kaju-katli custard topped with kaju katli. For coconut lovers, there is Coconut Blast which is dipped in rich white chocolate sprinkled with a blast of delicious crushed coconuts, and if you are crazy for nuts you can try Nuts Over Mohanthal with milk chocolate, mohanthal custard topped with almond and pistachio flakes.

Then soak into the culinary heritage of rich Rajasthani and Gujarati food as Khandani Rajdhani serves up a royal  Diwali feast for the next five days. The menu comprises a variety of farsaan — Mattar Khasta Roll, Barsa Dolla, Hariwali Patra; traditional vegetable dishes like Surati Undhiyu, Sangri Ke Kofte and Tilwale Aloo. To round up the royal meal on a sweet meat there’s an equally yummy dessert list with options such as Akhrot Halwa, Khajur Barfi and Dry fruit halwa.

Baluchi at Lalit Ashok is hosting the Hyderabadi culinary extravaganza — Nazaakat as part of their Gourmet Express series. The menu quite obviously is expansive. So from starters like gosht lukhmi, murg ke pasande kebab to the signature Hyderbadi dish - Kacche Gosht Ki Hyderabadi Dum Biryani and Dum Ka Murgh, the table at this festival is well-laden with vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies that celebrate the Hyderbadi cuisine. To set the mood right, there’s Marfa music which will be played live at the restaurant.
